INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
The MIT UCEM program seeks to increase the number of outstanding Ph.D. graduates from historically underrepresented and underserved populations (i.e., African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans) within STEM fields. In implementing this effort, the UCEM program awards Sloan Scholarships to incoming students each year in our five UCEM departments (i.e., Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Health Sciences and Technology, Mechanical Engineering).
Incoming students do not apply to the UCEM program but are nominated by their department. Any questions about funding support or application process should be directed to the MIT UCEM Leadership Team.
CURRENT STUDENTS
MIT Sloan Scholars receive the standard MIT Ph. D. support package plus an additional $40,000 in supplemental funding over five years to support student’s academic progress and enrichment. UCEM scholars will have an opportunity to participate in a series of holistic programming that supports their navigation through graduate school at MIT. Many of these events are sponsored by our collaborative offices: Office of Graduate Education, Institute Community and Equity Office, Career Advising and Professional Development, and other community and campus partners. These events are designed to help UCEM scholars fully integrate into the MIT community and empower students to thrive through their graduate school and into their careers.
